Sukhothai is 427 km north of Bangkok. The Sukhothai
Kingdom was Thailand's first unified state founded in
1238. The site of Sukhothai and Associated Towns was
inscribed onto the World Heritage List in 1991 and is
one of Thailand's five World Heritage sites.
The great
civilization which evolved in the Kingdom of Sukhothai
absorbed numerous influences and ancient local
traditions; the rapid assimilation of all these elements
forged what is known as the 'Sukhothai style'.
Si Satchanalai
Traditional gold is highly prized and uniqueness. Local
Thai craftsmen have created striking designs using the
Si Satchanalai gold technique, with an emphasis on
novelty combined with ancient artistic patterns. Si
Satchanalai, or Sawankhalok, was an important producer
of Sangkhalok wares (Earthenware) which were exported
throughout Asian countries.
